Communities Across America Celebrate National Night Out

IMG_7842On August 6th, police agencies across the nation celebrated National Night Out, inviting residents to come out and join them in the fight against crime to keep communities safe.

National Night Out was created by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada in 1984.  It is the first Tuesday in the month of August.  Police agencies partner with neighborhood watch groups, non-profit organizations, and private businesses for a community event that spotlights police programs for crime prevention.  The event raises public awareness on gang culture, substance abuse intervention, popular financial scams, school safety resources, anti-bullying programs, joining local neighborhood watch efforts, and crime prevention tips.

If you missed National Night Out this year, mark you calendar and save the date for next year.  Contact your local law enforcement agency and inquire about an event near you and how you can volunteer to help.
